Year 6 ROAR dentistry workshop

By 13 March 2024No Comments

Year 6 had a superb experience today learning about dinosaur teeth! Student dentists from King’s College travelled to Lordswood to deliver an exciting STEM workshop.
The children were looking at real fossils, some replicas and got to touch and explore teeth from creatures that went extinct more than 65 million years ago! Amazing!
Following on from their Science unit on evolution, they became palaeontologists and used the fossils to predict what dinosaurs would have looked like and what they would have eaten from their teeth. They understood how different dinosaurs were adapted to different lifestyles and habitats. There were also some discussions about why they became extinct. They were able to compare dinosaur fossils to current species (including humans).

It was also a great opportunity to discuss their own dentistry habits and remind them of good oral hygiene.
