Our Day at Hampton Court

By Annaliese C

On Thursday, 23rd February, our Year 5 children arrived at school early, excited to start our wonderful day at Hampton Court Palace.

After a long journey we finally arrived.  We first went to collect our audio tour guides which involved having a comfy headset and a phone type machine which told us about the history of the Palace.  We visited Henry VIII’s Great Hall which was designed and built for his wife Anne Boleyn.  We next visited the Watching Chamber and processional route, unfortunately we didn’t see the ghosts!

We went into the Council Chamber and took part in a Privy Council meeting which was lots of fun.  We even got to see Henry’s Chapel.  Later we visited the Tudor kitchens and warmed ourselves by the great fire.

The gardens were very beautiful despite it being winter but it was good to see the spring bulbs already coming up.  Finally, we visited King Henry’s tennis court and watched some men playing this interesting game.

We had an amazing day and learnt so much about this period of history.  We will now use this information to help us while we study ‘Treason’ in our English lessons.

We definitely all want to go back so we can explore more!
