On Tuesday, our Champions Series Tag Rugby team took on the best of the best in the Medway area at Medway Rugby Club. First up was a 5 team group stage with the top 4 teams going through to the knockout stages. A tight 6-5 defeat in game one left us with work to do but we didn’t let that beat us and finished 2nd in our group after 3 convincing victories. That meant a quarter final against The Academy of Woodlands. An excellent first half enabled us to comfortably make it through to the semi-final against St Mary’s Island. Unfortunately, they were too good for us on this occasion and they managed to win 8-6 leaving us with a 3rd place playoff match. Sadly we again lost 4-3 to finish in 4th place – still a fantastic achievement by the team.
On Thursday we entered the cup and plate competitions. Our cup team was another year 6 team who played against some excellent teams; still managing a couple of wins to finish 24th out of the 33 schools who participated. In the plate competition was our Year 5 team. These children played against all Year 6 teams but, despite this difference, they were phenomenal and won 6, drew 1 (very first game) and lost 1. No position has yet been awarded for this competition but I am very much looking forward to how the team performs next year as Year 6.
