This week, Lordswood took 3 hockey teams to the Mini Youth Games Hockey tournaments. The Champions Series team playing on Tuesday and the Cup and Plate teams playing Thursday.
The Champions Series team began with a convincing win against Swingate before a couple of single goal defeats to Woodlands and St Michaels. They finished the group with a win against Cliffe Woods. In the quarter finals, they faced St Andrews (who had finished 2nd in their group). They played amazingly well to win 4-0. This meant they were in the semi finals where they would play Woodlands once again. They had many chances, however Woodlands were more clinical and beat us 2-1. They then played St Michael’s in the 3rd/4th place game, which they managed to win 1-0 to finish in 3rd place overall. Congratulations!
On Thursday there was a Year 6 team in the Cup competition and a Year 5 team in the Plate event. The Year 6 team played 8 matches and battled very well all day, improving all the time, to finish in 15th place out of 26 teams. The Year 5 team managed to win 3, draw 4 and only lose 1 of their 8 games (playing many games against Year 6 teams) and only let in 1 goal in all day. They finished in the top 10 out of 25 schools.
A fantastic effort on both days from the amazing children. Well done all!
