Year 4 took a step back into the year 1875, during the reign of Queen Victoria. They were given the opportunity to attend a Victorian school and compared it to school today by looking at the pros and cons of each school setting. They were left feeling rather grateful for their modern-day classrooms and the privilege of having both boys and girls sitting together in lessons.
Later on in the day, they had the opportunity to explore both the gorgeous grounds of the castle and its intriguing interiors. They used secondary sources to learn about the history of the castle and how it has evolved over the years. They were curious dolphins as they dived into learning about the various strategies that the castle used to keep intruders out. The murder holes (machicolation) and cleverly built archer windows were their favourites.
They kept their guides very busy with some brilliant questions and left Leeds Castle even more knowledgeable than when they first came. It was a brilliant day for the young historians!
