Year 4 embarked on an unforgettable journey through Prehistoric Britain, thanks to a special collaboration with the Guildhall Museum. The children had the rare chance to handle authentic artefacts spanning the three main stages of the Stone Age and the Bronze Age.
Throughout the session, the children demonstrated impressive curiosity, asked insightful questions and explored how archaeologists piece together the past from clues left behind. Jeremy from the Guildhall Museum praised the children’s outstanding preparation.
The day’s highlight was a close-up encounter with a real woolly mammoth tooth, estimated to be around 20,000 years old, sparking excitement and a thirst for more knowledge.
The children ended the day with an engaging Now Press Play experience, where they stepped into the role of a boy living in the Stone Age. They joined a hunt with his family, faced challenges when the group was attacked by wolves. In the confusion, they became lost and stumbled upon a wooden house. Through a series of events, they successfully hunted a woolly mammoth using bows and arrows, made new friends and learned about emerging technologies of the time.
To continue this adventure, we invite our families to take their children to visit the Guildhall Museum in Rochester, where the rest of the woolly mammoth exhibit await. Admission is £5 for adults and £1.10 for children. An annual family pass for two adults and two children is available for £10. Our budding historians are eager to keep discovering—why not join them in exploring the mysteries of Prehistoric Britain?
