Year 4 River Trip

Year 4 had a brilliant day on their river study trip to the Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve. They carried out fieldwork to learn how rivers are formed and to explore the features. The children, in their wellie boots, stepped into the River Darent to measure its width, depth and even the speed of the current. Afterwards, they used nets to collect samples from the river to study the organisms living there.

Next, they moved on to a stiller body of water, where they collected samples from the pond and compared the organisms found there to those found in the river.

There was a great deal of cross-curricular learning, as the children used their maths skills to calculate the average speed of the river flow, alongside applying their scientific skills in classification and pattern-seeking.

It was a truly wonderful learning experience for both staff and children, who were knowledgeable and well-behaved, making us all very proud and leaving a great impression on the facilitators at the Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve.
