Year 1’s Wild and Wonderful Day at Wingham Wildlife Park!

Year 1 had the most incredible adventure today as they set off to Wingham Wildlife Park — and what a day it was! With the sun blazing on one of the hottest days of the year, the children showed remarkable enthusiasm, curiosity, and care throughout their visit, truly living out our Lordswood values in everything they did.
The day was packed with exciting opportunities to explore, learn, and get hands-on with nature. One of our highlights was meeting a zoo keeper during the penguin feeding. The children listened carefully, asked brilliant questions, and were fascinated by all the interesting facts they discovered about the animals’ diets, habitats, and behaviours. It was even one of the penguins birthdays!

As they ventured around the park, the children were thrilled to see a wide range of animals — some of their favourites included Troy the tiger, the graceful giraffes, cheeky meerkats, and energetic ring-tailed lemurs. The reptile house and nocturnal exhibition sparked lots of curiosity too, with bats, bush babies, and even fluffy cloud rats capturing their attention.
A particularly memorable moment was exploring the boiling hot bird house, where the children got up close with colourful Rainbow Lorikeets. The heat didn’t stop them from peering in wonder as the vibrant birds fluttered nearby and hung around the walkways, creating a magical, up-close encounter that felt like stepping into the rainforest.

Later in the day, some of them had a special chance to speak with keepers about dinosaurs and other extinct animals. They were captivated by the discussion about dinosaur teeth and even got to handle a variety of fascinating artifacts. This hands-on experience brought history to life and left the children buzzing with excitement and new knowledge.

Throughout the visit, the children were exceptional ambassadors for our school. They were polite, respectful, and kind — both to each other and to the staff and visitors they met along the way. Several volunteers and members of the public commented on their outstanding manners and behaviour, and we couldn’t be prouder.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful staff and volunteers who supported the trip. Your energy, patience, and dedication make these special learning experiences possible, and we are so grateful. Well done, Year 1 — what an unforgettable day filled with adventure, learning, and joy!
