Today, Year 1 enjoyed an exciting and memorable school trip to Rochester Cathedral and Rochester Castle as part of our castles topic this term. The visit gave the children a wonderful opportunity to bring their classroom learning to life and experience history first-hand.
At Rochester Cathedral, we took part in a guided tour where we learnt about the different parts of the cathedral and discovered interesting facts about its history and purpose. The children were full of curiosity and asked lots of thoughtful questions throughout the tour. We also enjoyed taking part in a heraldry workshop, where we learnt about coats of arms and what the different symbols can represent. The children then had the chance to design and create their own coats of arms, showing lots of creativity and imagination.
We also explored Rochester Castle. Although the weather was rainy, it certainly did not stop our enthusiasm! The children loved walking around the castle grounds. Some of us even climbed all the way to the top of the castle, where we were rewarded with fantastic views despite the drizzle.
The children were a credit to the school throughout the day, showing excellent behaviour, enthusiasm and curiosity. We all had an amazing time and it was a fantastic way to deepen our understanding of castles and life in the past.
