The Great Fire of Lordswood

Year 2 stepped back in time today as they recreated their very own Great Fire of London after learning all about the famous historical event in class. The children took part in an incredible immersive experience, which helped bring history to life and gave them a first-hand understanding of how quickly the fire spread through London in 1666. Watching the flames move rapidly from one building to another helped the pupils understand why the fire caused so much destruction.

Throughout the topic, Year 2 have explored how the fire started, why it spread so quickly and how London changed afterwards. The exciting recreation gave the children the chance to deepen their understanding in a memorable and engaging way. The children were fascinated by the experience and asked thoughtful questions as they compared modern-day firefighting methods with those used in the 17th century. It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to experience history beyond the classroom and see their learning come to life.
