Shakespeare Festival 9th February 2023

Report by Maddy P

We started our play way back in November.  We first learnt the story ‘The Comedy of Errors’ though our English lessons and prep for learning activities.

Louise, our London director, joined us at school on 24th November.   All of Year 5 enjoyed learning some fun acting techniques.  A few of us decided to take this further and join the drama club who met after school, with Miss Remeikyte, to rehearse the play.

Soon our Shakespeare In a Day arrived.  We met bright and early at The Salvation Army in Church Street, Chatham along with Year 5 children from Kingfisher and Saxon Way.  We started with a warm-up including some physical and vocal activities.  We next rehearsed the opening scenes which involved all the children, from all the schools.

Eventually we moved onto rehearsing individual scenes.  If we weren’t involved then we made scenery, props or attended workshop activities all about The Salvation Army, we had lots of fun.

Once rehearsals were finished we then enjoyed a fantastic McDonalds meal together before getting ready for our evening performance.  Soon all our families started to arrive and excitement started to build.  The hall was full, the lights went down and we were ready to start.

Soon our play was over which was sad.  We had all remembered our Shakespearean words and we all did our best.  Out parents and teachers were very proud.  It was amazing and we will always remember it.
