This week, we continued our Griffin Arts Festival (GAF) celebrations with a wonderful variety of artistic experiences across the school. From expressive workshops to joyful performances, every year group has been busy embracing creativity and celebrating the arts.
Year 1 and Year 2 had a fantastic time working with visiting illustrator Emily Fellah, who guided them step-by-step in designing and drawing their own imaginative characters. The children were inspired and delighted by the experience.
Key Stage 2 enjoyed a vibrant steel pan performance, filling the hall with rhythm and excitement. Year 5 then took part in their own hands-on workshop, learning to create music in this uplifting style. Meanwhile, our Nursery children joined in their own special GAF workshop, earning glowing praise from the visiting artist for their enthusiasm and participation.
Year 6 continued a proud Lordswood tradition by taking part in a caricature workshop, a highlight they always look forward to during the Griffin Arts Festival.
Many classes completed their GAF workshops this week, producing beautiful and thoughtful artwork, which is proudly displayed in our very own Lordswood GAF Gallery. Some year groups also explored the incredible work of African American artist Alma Thomas, drawing inspiration from her unique style and story.
We ended the week with a wonderful Rainbow Day celebration. The whole school came together to wish a very Happy Birthday to the NHS. In the afternoon, we all headed out to enjoy a picnic in the sunshine — and maybe even a cheeky ice cream! Families, friends and staff joined in, and each year group had the opportunity to perform their Big Sing songs all based on our theme of “Imagine”. The atmosphere was joyful and the event was a perfect end to a creative and inspiring week.
A heartfelt thank you to all the families who joined us and supported our school event — your presence and encouragement mean so much to us all. We truly appreciate your continued support in making events like GAF so special.
