Lordswood School was buzzing with mathematical excitement today as students and staff celebrated “Number Day” in spectacular fashion!
Children arrived at school dressed in different numbers. There was a fantastic turnout, with plenty of creative costumes—and yes, as expected, we saw “sixes” and “sevens” galore! The effort put into the outfits truly set the tone for a fun and engaging day.
The day consisted of the eagerly anticipated event: the Great Number Hunt! Children scoured the school grounds, searching for little wooden numbers hidden high and low. The excitement was palpable as they successfully located them, earning a well-deserved sweet in exchange for their efforts. This hands-on activity was a fun way to get everyone focused on digits right from the start.
Each class participated in a dedicated math lesson with a unique twist. Teachers skillfully integrated carefully selected storybooks into the curriculum, which proved to be an invaluable resource. This cross-curricular approach successfully supported the children in building their mathematical vocabulary and deepening their conceptual understanding.
The grand finale for the day brought together students from Years 1 through 6 for a thrilling “Top Tables” House Event. The hall was filled with focus and friendly rivalry as the teams showcased their rapid-fire mental arithmetic skills.
The competition was fierce, with great skill, strategy and quick thinking on display from all four houses. After a nail-biting finish, Valiant House emerged as the deserving champions! Congratulations to all the participants for demonstrating such fantastic mathematical prowess.
A huge thank you to all the children, parents and staff for making Number Day such a vibrant, educational and competitive success!
